This is Ash. XPP was asked to pull him from Death Row at a high kill shelter in San Antonio, Texas. We weren’t sure we could tag him in time, but somehow the stars lined up, and we did.
He is a calm, gentle, one year old boy. Because he is an all black, larger dog, his chances of getting out were slim to none. “Black Dog Syndrome is a theory/phenomenon in “which black dogs are passed over for adoption in favor of lighter-colored animals. Animal shelters often use the term BBD, or Big Black Dog, to describe the type of larger, dark-colored mixed breed thought by some to be passed over by potential adopters. Black cats are similarly reported to be subject to the same phenomenon.” – Wikipedia
When I was filling out his bio, I was struck by how much he looked like a gargoyle- and I mean that in the nicest way. His serious expression and those ears…he could very well be sitting at the edge of a building on the Upper West Side in NYC!
Ash was pulled on Memorial Day Weekend, and with no adopters or fosters, he was taken in by our rescue boarding partner, Bill. Ash stayed there for months, was moved to another boarding partner of ours until we were finally able to secure a rescue for him. He got adopted within a week of going to one of our amazing rescues in New York.
Ash will sleep the peaceful and carefree sleep on knowing that he is safe and loved…and finally home.
